Saving and finding bookmarks

Tap the bookmark icon in the toolbar to save the page you are on. The icon fills in to show the page is saved; tap it again to rename the bookmark or move it to a folder. Each bookmark shows the site's own icon so you can spot it quickly.

To find a bookmark, open Bookmarks from the menu and tap the search icon. The search looks through every folder at once and lists matches in titles before matches in web addresses. Bookmarks also appear as suggestions when you type in the address bar, ahead of your history.

Organizing with folders

Importing from Chrome, Firefox or Edge

Every major desktop browser can save its bookmarks as an HTML file in a standard format, and Vee reads that format, including your folders and the site icons.

  1. Export from your old browser.
    • Chrome: open chrome://bookmarks, click the three-dot menu, then Export bookmarks.
    • Firefox: open the Library (Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks), then Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML.
    • Edge: open edge://favorites, click the three-dot menu, then Export favorites.
  2. Copy the file to your phone. Email it to yourself, or put it in Google Drive or your Downloads folder.
  3. Import it in Vee: open Bookmarks, choose Import, and pick the file. Your folder structure comes across intact.

Cleaning up duplicates and sorting

After a few imports, most bookmark collections contain the same page several times. Tap the Organize button (three lines) in the Bookmarks toolbar. Every option asks for confirmation first.

OptionWhat it does
Remove exact duplicatesRemoves bookmarks with the same address and the same name, keeping the oldest copy where it is.
Merge duplicate URLsCombines bookmarks that share an address but have different names into one, keeping each distinct name in its title. A summary shows what was merged.
Merge all folders into rootFlattens everything into a single list and removes the folders.
Sort by name / URL / dateRe-orders every folder. Sorting by date puts the newest first.

The bar at the bottom of the Bookmarks page always shows your total, so you can see the effect straight away.

Exporting your bookmarks

Vee can export your bookmarks to the same standard HTML format, with folders and icons included. The file opens in any desktop browser's import tool, so your bookmarks are never locked in.

Backing up everything and moving to a new phone

A bookmark export covers bookmarks only. A Vee backup can hold almost everything in one encrypted file: bookmarks and their icons, browsing history, download history, app settings, site permissions, your AI Facets and their saved data, your location history and favorites, and recently closed tabs. Every section is included by default, and you can untick any you want to leave out. Open tabs are never included.

  1. On the old phone, open Settings → Backup and tap Back up now. The file is saved as vee_backup_<date>.vbak in your Download/VeeBrowser/backups folder.
  2. Copy that file to the new phone, for example through cloud storage, email or a USB cable.
  3. Install Vee on the new phone, open Settings → Backup and tap Restore from backup.
  4. Choose how to restore:
    • Replace (the default) clears the phone's data for each selected section and loads the backup in its place. Use this on a new phone.
    • Merge keeps what is already on the phone and adds the backup's items on top. Restored bookmarks go into their own Restored folder so they do not get mixed into your existing ones, and where the two disagree, what is already on the phone wins.

Automatic backups

On the same Backup page you can turn on automatic backups: every time you open the app, once a day or once a week. They are saved to the same folder, so a recent backup is always waiting if you lose or replace your phone. Automatic backups are off until you turn them on.

Keep backup files private. A backup is encrypted so that ordinary file viewers cannot read it, but anyone who has both the file and a copy of Vee Browser can restore it. Because Vee has no cloud account, store it somewhere only you can reach.

History and downloads

History lists the pages you have visited, newest first. To clear it, along with cookies, cache and more, see Clearing your data.

Downloads keeps a record of every file you have downloaded, grouped by when (Just now, Today, Yesterday and so on), with filters for Images and Other files and a search box. Each download has options to open, share, delete the file from your phone, or simply remove it from the list.

Vee Browser is free on Android and iPhone.
